My research interests include:

-citizenship, race, gender, and urban modernity in 19th Century American Far West

-American Civil War, Reconstruction, and the Gilded Age

-US involvement in Southeast Asia 20th century 

-The United States in a global context

-epistemology and philosophy of history

-public memory, public history, and pedagogy of history
