Pacifists Making Guns: A British Quaker Family in the Eighteenth Century

Dr. Priya Satia is Associate Professor of History at Stanford University. Her work examines the evolution of the material infrastructure of the modern world in the age of empire. She is the author of Spies in Arabia: The Great War and the Cultural Foundations of Britain’s Covert Empire in the Middle East (OUP 2008). Her next project, Empire of Guns: The Violent Making of the Industrial Revolution, uses the gun industry as a window onto the relationship between wars of imperial conquest and the industrial revolution.
