A distinguished professor of Early Modern Italy, Venice, and the Mediterranean, Professor Davis has written or co-authored eight books and many articles that deal with a variety of topics, including slavery in the Mediterranean, Venetian shipbuilding, masculinity and the rituals of public violence, and Venice as a modern tourist city. His broad interests are always anchored by his fascination with popular culture and social life. Professor Davis’ current work is on brigandage in Early Modern Italy.
