The Undergraduate History Showcase is an annual event held each spring that recognizes the exceptional research conducted by UC Santa Cruz history undergraduates. In addition, a history alumnus delivers a keynote address in which they expound on the valuable career skills they acquired by majoring in history.

"Teacher or Student: Lifelong Learning?"

Joe Gabent
Elementary School Teacher

Joe will discuss how a humanities degree prepared him to be an educator, how he passes the skills he gained as a history major on to his students, and how becoming an educator has granted him a lifetime of learning.

Joe Gabent is a 2008 UCSC Americas and Africa major graduate, a 2009 UCSC Education Department MAT program graduate, and a teacher for the Sunnyvale School District.
