UCDC Program

UCDC Program (UC Washington Center)

History majors are encouraged to spend a quarter in Washington, D.C. Undergraduate juniors and seniors can enroll full-time in the UCDC Program; under special circumstances, sophomores may apply as well. Students take classes and intern at one of the many organizations or agencies in the Washington D.C. area while fully enrolled as UCSC students. Students are housed in the UC Washington Center. The cost for the quarter is comparable to a quarter on campus at UCSC (plus travel); scholarships are available to aid in the cost of airfare and additional living expenses.

Applying UCDC Courses to the Major

UCDC courses must be reviewed and approved by the History Department upon your return from UCDC before they can be applied toward your major. Return with as much course material as possible (e.g., syllabi, course work) for review. Upon returning to campus, make an appointment with the Undergraduate Director to complete a Post-UCDC Course Approval form [PDF]. Be prepared to justify why these courses should qualify as part of your History major. The signed approval form must be brought to the History Department for inclusion in your file.

UCSC Career, Internship, and Student Employment Center

The Career Center employs counselors to advise students about graduate schools and UCSC’s Reference Letter Service, career opportunities in various fields, job procurement, résumé writing, and interview techniques. The Career Center also has a library containing videotapes, pamphlets, cassettes, and other resources that provide information about careers and graduate programs. April Goral (459-4839; asgoral@ucsc.edu) specializes in assisting humanities majors.
