Spring Spotlight 2017: April 7 to April 15
The History Department enthusiastically invites newly-admitted students and their families to attend Spring Spotlight 2017. Visiting the campus during Spring Spotlight is an excellent opportunity to learn more about the history program at UC Santa Cruz, our student support services, and the History Department community. We hope your visit to UC Santa Cruz will include several of the following History Department Spring Spotlight opportunities.
Visit a History Course
Would you like to know what a college level history course is like? Prospective students and their families are invited to attend history courses during their campus visit. Please use the History Department Spring Spotlight Calendar of Events to identify courses you may attend. Please introduce yourself to the instructor before class begins. We also ask that you minimize disruptions to the course lecture by either remaining for the entire class period or sitting near an exit where you can depart discreetly.
Talk to the History Major Adviser
Undergraduate major advisers help students clarify and formulate their academic plans of study and develop long term educational goals. Stephanie Sawyer, the history undergraduate major adviser, welcomes the opportunity to discuss the philosophy and pedagogy of the history program with you. Prospective students and their families may meet with Stephanie in the History Department main office (Humanities 1, room 201) during the times indicated on the History Department Spring Spotlight Calendar of Events. If you'd like to set up an appointment to meet with Stephanie outside of these designated walk-in hours, please email her.
Meet the Faculty
The History Department faculty are a distinguished group of internationally recognized researchers and teachers. When you study history at UC Santa Cruz, you work with scholars who are known for their scholarship and the quality of their engagement with undergraduates. Opportunities to meet individual History Department faculty are listed in the History Department Spring Spotlight Calendar of Events.
