Welcome New Faculty to the Department!

The History Department would like to extend a warm welcome to its newest members!

Catherine Chang is a visiting assistant professor, whose research focuses on modern China and modern asia. She is teaching HIS 106C, Modern Asia: China and Japan, and HIS 194W, Chinese Ethical Thought this fall.

Nathaniel Deutsch is a professor of history and literature, and teaches the history of Judaism and the history of religions. Look for his course, HIS 107, Religion and Modernity in the Spring.

Emily Honig joins the History Department this year, transferring from Feminist Studies. She researches gender, sexuality, and ethnicity in modern Chinese history; comparative labor history; Chicana history; nationalism and sexuality in the Third World; oral history. She will be teaching HIS 145, Gender, Colonialism, and Third World Feminism, and HIS 194A, Gender, Class and Sex in Shanghai this coming fall.

Gregory O'Malley will be joining the department this winter teaching HIS 110B, Revolutionary America, 1740-1815, and HIS 190X, History of the Atlantic World, 1492-1824. He specializes in colonial British America and the Caribbean; the Atlantic world; slavery and the slave trade.
