Research Focus
I study the secularization of Europe. I am particularly interested in the intellectual and cultural changes that has caused some historians to label the religious status of some countries within Europe as “Post-Christian.” My M.A. thesis was on the marginalization of atheism in Victorian Britain that focused on a court case over disseminating information on contraception that involved Annie Besant and Charles Bradlaugh and also the obstruction of Charles Bradlaugh’s entrance into British Parliament as a declared atheist. Although I am currently trying to refine my dissertation topic, I plan to work within the intellectual currents of French atheism.
