Research Focus
My research interests include the history of Japanese colonialism in the Pacific and Japanese frontiers. My research is currently focused on the environmental and social history of the Ogasawara Islands, particularly in the ways in which the 'nature' of the islands was managed and transformed in the early 20th century. I also have a strong interest in world history, and have written on the global exploitation of whales. C. Tyner, 'A History on Commercial Whaling, 1100-1982'
